Enjoy a Taste of Britain at AboveGround
Celebrity chef and Brit Marco Pierre White is an expert on cuisine from the U.K., and he served as the mentor for Chef Nicholas Joseph Martino. Under his tutelage, Chef Martino gained the culinary expertise that led him to recently open AboveGround in Union Station. A play on “the Underground,” a common nickname for London’s tube system, AboveGround brings authentic British fare to D.C. in a casual setting.
Dig into a classic dish like “The Governor’s” fish and chips. The entree features deep-fried haddock paired with perfectly golden triple-cooked chips (AKA French fries), fresh tartar sauce, and mushy peas. You might want to try the signature Shepherd’s pie, instead, with minced lamb, carrots, diced rutabagas, and creamy mashed potatoes on top. For something a little more unique, opt for the chicken and leek pie with Dijon cream or the chicken tikka masala with mango chutney. You can also dig into a sausage roll if you’re on the go with just a few minutes to spare. Don’t forget to add a sweet treat from the daily-changing lineup of British confections.
